Perplexity
Answer engine that cites its sources, useful for researching facts and figures for a deck.
For these 22 tools, we read the vendor's published documents and answered eight privacy questions, each answer with a source and review date. This list is editorial. No one paid to be included here.
We read what the vendor publishes itself: the data processing agreement (DPA), the list of sub-processors, statements on server location, on using customer content (such as uploaded decks and documents) for model training, on the EU representative under Art. 27 GDPR, on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), deletion periods and the vendor's own certifications. Every answer links to the document it comes from and shows the date we read it.
Not included: We did not use the tool for this, did not give a rating and did not test any of the vendor's claims. That's the next level, Verified. Also: a documented promise is not a certification and not legal advice. See our disclaimer.
For 1 vendors, we couldn't find a publicly available data processing agreement, or it's only visible after signing up. For any company buying under the GDPR, that's the first stumbling block.
We count what the vendor documents, sometimes only for certain plans. Where EU data residency only applies to an enterprise plan, the listing says so.
Headquarters alone says nothing about where data is stored. We show both separately on each listing because in practice they often differ.
A vendor may point to an ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certificate that actually belongs to its data center or cloud host. We only count a certificate if it was issued to the vendor itself; otherwise the listing says who holds it.
